Construction is slated to begin on the Westin Irving Convention Center hotel this month, which will be the first step in bringing this long-awaited project to fruition.
The 12-story, 350-room hotel is slated to get underway on March 22 with an official groundbreaking ceremony.
The Westin Hotels & Resorts flag will operate the hotel, which is expected to open in early 2018.
The convention center hotel will be the headquarters hotel for the Irving Convention Center and will offer an additional 16,000 square feet of meeting space, which includes a 10,000-square-foot ballroom.
Dallas-based BOKA Powell is the architect. Dallas-based Austin Commercial is the general contractor of the project.
Recently, the hotel received a capital infusion with the help of Dallas-based Preston Hollow Capital, which recently closed a $225 million capital fund.
The hotel will help fill in the Las Colinas Urban Center along Lake Carolyn, which also includes the $200 million Live Nation-anchored Irving Music Factory, which is getting closer to completion.
Irving was one of the top submarkets in North Texas for leased office space in 2016. Real estate sources say projects like this convention center hotel is attracting the corporate clientele to the city.
