BOKA Powell is providing complete architectural and interior design services for the expansion of the Hotel Lumen in the University Park neighborhood in Dallas, Texas. This full service hotel, operated by Kimpton Hotels, provides exceptional and convenient support to the SMU staff, faculty, students, and the University Park party scene. The current 4 star, 4 story, 52 guestroom exclusive boutique hotel sits adjacent to SMU on Hillcrest Avenue across from the Meadows School of Art. The 3 story expansion will adjoin the existing hotel with 36 new guestrooms and amenities that include, a casual yet elegant restaurant/ bar, a lushly landscaped outdoor pool and pool deck, and roof top terrace with stunning downtown views. The design vision of the expansion component was to capture the scale of the existing minimalist structure and accentuate the notion of framed views by maximizing windows in rooms and creating a formal aperture with repetitive cube forms. The resulting open plan ground floor integrates existing and new with spaces that flow together as pavilions linked by view corridors. The new common areas and rooms are finished in a sophisticated style with elegant modern furnishings.
