Southwest Airlines Training and Operational Support

BOKA Powell designed a 500,000 SF, $120M expansion of Southwest Airlines’ corporate headquarters at Love Field in Dallas, Texas. The facility includes office and conference space, and the carrier’s national training center, all designed to foster a unique, collaborative atmosphere for employees. “The Airport Experience” provides a realistic ticket counter, gate, Baggage Service Office, jet bridge, and emergency evacuation trainer. “TOPS” is also home to Southwest’s world-class Network Operations Control (NOC) facility, which serves as the Airline’s 24/7 operation center. The secure command center ensures uninterrupted operations of flight dispatch, scheduling, and maintenance.


We designed the first two floors for supreme connectivity, with wide open canyons and vertical links between floors.  The dramatic, yet simple lobby opens up into a training facility reminiscent of a university campus. The building’s design introduces curved forms evocative of movement and the aerodynamics of aircraft, with free-flowing interior spaces. Through the integration of imagery and color, we’ve sought to create an environment that supports Southwest’s culture of collaboration, fun and flexibility in a highly secure structure.
