BOKA Powell designed, documented, and performed construction administration services for Southwest Airlines’ new flight training center at the carrier’s Dallas Love Field headquarters. Home to Southwest’s Leadership Education and Aircrew Development (LEAD) Center, the $104M flight training center project accommodates 18 state-of-the-art, $13M CAE Boeing 737 Flight Simulators in 379,603 SF. Extensive flight training and instructional space is located on the fourth floor above the simulator gallery. The facility includes two fixed Flight Training Devices (FTDs) with associated briefing rooms, 14 Flight Deck Procedures Trainers (CPTs) and associated briefing rooms, as well as 13 Virtual Procedures Training/Integrated Procedures Training (VPT/IPT) rooms and their associated briefing rooms. Joint training areas for Pilots and Crew include a raft training center, slide pit, and full-size joint training fuselage section. Twelve medium-size classrooms and nine large classrooms offer traditional group instruction space. The LEAD Center connects to the 425,512 SF Wings Office Building, immediately adjacent and delivered at the same time with general contractor McCarthy Building Companies.
