Texas is known for many things – beautiful landscapes, cowboy culture, multicultural cuisine, and southern hospitality. It is also (in)famous for its sprawling cities, made possible by plentiful space and the local oil and gas industry, and its extreme weather. The downtown of the north Texas metropolis Dallas is a clear example of the effects of sprawl and the car culture, where green spaces, pedestrian walkways, well-located and interconnected public transit, residential living options, and the basic needs of existing in a downtown community are still very much lacking. However, awareness of the city’s inadequacies in recent years has led to many positive changes in mindset and real action. This hope for a better future for the city is why our team decided that downtown Dallas, our hometown, was the right location for intervening in a real location.
