National Museum of World Writing

Songdo, South Korea

A diverse body of world writings provides us with a rich, often complicated collection of works that reflect varied cultural contexts and unique mindsets of disparate lands. Within this context, we can build a tribute to our most memorable stories, complex ideas, and important messages, which can be delivered to the other side of time and space.

If we were to acknowledge writing's greatest power, it would be its ability to reflect man's most distinctive quality: to create. “I write; therefore, I am. We create; therefore, we are." The creative nature of mankind is reflected in this building's design. The experiential sequence of the museum allows patrons to shift between the intimate viewing of the collections to communal introspection. Spaces such as a resting area and a circulation zone support the transcendental power of writing forms, bridging space and time, individuals and peoples.
